                                                                An Eye Opener

Assalamu alaikum,

Alhamdulillah, Platform 2013 has come and gone! Miami, Floridia was a lot of fun and benefit. Over 800 attendees from all over the country participated in 4 days of lectures, activities,  social interaction and networking as well as Qur’an, quiz, and sports competitions. Platform is the annual flagship program of the National Council of Nigerian Muslim Organizations in the USA. Platform 2014 is scheduled to be held in Los Angeles, California in December 2014.

Speakers

Imam Abdullatif Abuzaid. Imam Abdullatif Abuzaid was born in Jordan and currently resides in Mesquite, TX. He received his Bachelors degree in Fundamental Principles of Religion from the University of Jordan, and received his Masters degree in Islamic Creed & Comparative Religions from Albalaq’a University in Jordan.

Shariq Abdul Ghani. A father, an activist, explorer, animal lover, archer, history addict, a shooter, and a self-declared backpacker extraordinaire. He also happens to be a Partner at two awesome companies: Renaya and Smashing Resumes, and he has worked with two Islamic organizations in a leadership capacity: Minaret Foundation and Crescent Youth. He loves working with people to see the real potential of Islam within themselves, and making our Deen more applicable to everyday life.

Sister Hanaa Gamal. Hanaa Gamal graduated salutatorian from Al-Azhar University in Egypt with a bachelors in Tafseer and Quranic Sciences. She has completed all coursework for her masters in Tafseer and Quranic Sciences and is currently working on her thesis. Hanaa Gamal is also the founder of Al-Azhar Institute (Houston, TX) as well as main instructor. She teaches all of the arabic, tajweed, tafseer, and hifth classes.

Sister Tahera Ahmad. Tahera Ahmad is a Muslim Chaplain who was raised in Morton Grove Ill. and graduated from Niles West High School were she played Varsity basketball. Ahmad studied classical and traditional Islamic Sciences in the five year Alimiyah/Shariah program at the Institute of Islamic Education in Elgin IL. Following traditional madrasa studies, she continued graduate studies in Arabic at Al-Diwan and Al-Azhar in Cairo, Egypt and in Department of Islamic Studies and Christian Muslim Relations and Islamic Chaplaincy at Hartford Theological Seminary in Connecticut.

Tope Ganiyah Fajingbesi. Tope Ganiyah Fajingbesi is the Chief Executive Officer of House of Ganiyah (www.ganiyah.com ). She is a Nigerian Chartered Accountant (ACA) and a United States of America Certified Public Accountant (CPA). She has 15 years’ accounting and financial management experience working with Big Four public accounting firms, Fortune 500 corporations, and nonprofit organizations across the USA and Africa. She is the author of “What Color Is Your Money?” She writes a personal finance column in Azizah magazine and blogs about personal finance at www.ourfinancialcoach.com .

Imam ‘AbduSemi’h A. Tádéṣe. Imam ‘AbduSemi’h A. Tádéṣe was born in Lagos, Nigeria, to a Muslim family with generations of practicing Muslims. From studying Arabic and Islamic education in Nigeria at an early age, he learned to speak Arabic language fluently. He received a Bachelor degree (LLB) in Comparative Law: Shari’ah and Common Law, from the International University of Africa in Khartoum, Sudan in 1995. He also received a Master of Science degree in Urban Studies with concentration in Law and Public Policy from Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs of Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio in 2004.
